At a towering 18 metres tall, the recreation of the RX-78-2 Gundam is a sight to behold. The hero mecha of the original Mobile Suit Gundam series is complete with flashing LED lights, moving limbs, and the ability to step out from its Gundam Dock.

But behind its awe-inspiring presence lies years of meticulous planning and engineering, as the project began development in 2014 and took several years to perfect.

The Final Countdown

As time ticks away, fans eager to catch a glimpse of the majestic Gundam are reminded that all good things must come to an end. Despite a couple of extensions in the past, Gundam Factory Yokohama is set to close its doors for good on March 31, 2024.

This news comes as a bittersweet moment for fans who have been fortunate enough to experience the Gundam's magnificence during its extended stay, made possible by adjustments due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

Speculations and Rumours

With the impending closure of Gundam Factory Yokohama, rumours abound regarding the fate of the iconic Gundam. Among the speculations is the possibility of dismantling the Gundam and transporting it to Osaka, where it may find a new home at the Gundam Pavilion for Expo 2025.

While these rumours offer hope for the Gundam's continued legacy, there has been no official confirmation from organisers, leaving fans eagerly awaiting updates on its future.

Reflections and Farewell

As the closure date draws near, fans reflect on the impact and significance of Gundam Factory Yokohama. Fond memories of visits to the factory are shared, where enthusiasts marvelled at the Gundam's impressive scale and intricate details.

The closure marks the end of an era, but the memories and experiences gained from the Gundam's presence will live on in the hearts of fans around the world.

Looking Ahead

While bidding farewell to Gundam Factory Yokohama may be bittersweet, fans remain optimistic about the future. With the possibility of the Gundam finding a new home in Osaka, there is hope for future projects and exhibitions that will continue to celebrate the beloved mecha.

As the final days of Gundam Factory Yokohama approach, fans are encouraged to seize the opportunity to visit and pay homage to this legendary symbol of mecha fandom before it bids its final farewell.
