Join us as we hoist the anchor and navigate through the top 10 biggest changes that Netflix's adaptation introduces to this cherished tale. From character dynamics to unexpected twists, the world of "One Piece" is about to expand, and we're here to unravel its secrets.

10. A More Mature Luffy

In the world of "One Piece," Monkey D. Luffy has always been celebrated for his boundless energy, kind-heartedness, and knack for getting into hilarious scrapes. Iñaki Godoy's portrayal of Luffy in the Netflix adaptation captures these traits while adding a unique twist. While Luffy's spontaneity and naivety remain intact, the live-action adaptation subtly emphasises his intelligence and maturity, casting him in a slightly different light than his manga counterpart.

9. Nami's Swift Transformation into a Fighter

While remaining true to her essence as a brilliant cartographer and navigator, the live-action series thrusts Nami into the limelight as a formidable fighter. In the original manga, Nami's combat skills gradually develop over time. However, the live-action adaptation accelerates her journey, presenting her as a fighter from the outset.

8. Missing Usopp Pirates
While the Netflix adaptation remains faithful to Usopp's backstory and introduction, one notable omission may leave you searching for a trio of familiar faces – the "Usopp pirates." In the manga and anime, Usopp regales the inhabitants of Syrup Village with stories of his pirate crew, comprising Ninjin, Tamanegi, and Piiman. These lively sidekicks add a layer of humor and charm to Usopp's character. However, in the live-action series, these colourful comrades are notably absent.

7. The Absence of Jango
In the original manga, Kuro enlists the aid of Jango, a hypnotist, to manipulate Kaya into trusting him with her family's wealth. The scenes involving Jango's hypnotic prowess are iconic in their own right, adding a layer of intrigue to Kuro's sinister scheme. Yet, in the live-action series, Kuro, masquerading as the butler Klahadore, employs a different method to win Kaya's trust. While the core plot remains consistent – Kuro's intention to seize Kaya's fortune – the absence of Jango alters the dynamics of this cunning heist.

6. Romance Between Usopp and Kaya
In episode 4 of the live-action series, audiences are treated to a romantic twist that was absent from the original manga. Usopp and Kaya share an on-screen kiss, confirming the romantic nature of their relationship. While their dynamic in the manga remains focused on friendship, the adaptation adds a layer of depth to their connection, making their bond all the more compelling.

5. Merry's Demise

In both the manga and the live-action show, Kuro targets Merry after the latter uncovers his true identity. However, a significant difference arises as Netflix's One Piece portrays Merry's demise in episode 4, while the manga keeps him alive. This change leads to a poignant moment in the show as Luffy names their new ship "the Going Merry" in honour of their fallen comrade.

4. No Johnny & Yosaku
In the manga and anime, the Straw Hat Pirates' early adventures in the East Blue region are enriched by the presence of Johnny and Yosaku, two bounty-hunter friends of Roronoa Zoro. However, in the Netflix adaptation, these colourful characters are notably absent, allowing the narrative to focus solely on the original Straw Hat members.

3. Arlong Takes Don Krieg's Place at the Baratie

Highlighting a significant change from the original manga, the Netflix adaptation sees Arlong, not Don Krieg, taking centre stage at the Baratie. While Don Krieg still appears in a smaller role, Mihawk encounters his pirates and deals them significant losses, much like in the source material. However, in the live-action series, Mihawk dispatches Don Krieg before Luffy even arrives at the Baratie, altering the course of events significantly.

2. The Island Of Rare Animals Is Omitted

The Island of Rare Animals, a well-known location in the "One Piece" world, plays a role during the East Blue saga. However, this unique island doesn't make an appearance in the Netflix adaptation's first season. In the source material, the Island of Rare Animals appears twice during this part of the story – first shortly before the Straw Hats head to the Baratie and then when Buggy embarks on a solo adventure while missing most of his body.

1. Garp's Early Introduction and Pursuit of Luffy

Netflix's "One Piece" adaptation introduces Monkey D. Garp, Luffy's grandfather, much earlier in the story. While Garp's role in the manga primarily centres around flashbacks and later arcs, the live-action series positions him as an overarching antagonist for the Straw Hat Pirates and chases Luffy right from the start.
