Description

The prototype of the 2K11 Krug self-propelled anti-aircraft missile system was created in 1957. However, the set came into service with the Soviet Army only in 1964 or 1965. Serial production probably started in 1967 and continues to this day! The 2K11 Krug set was powered by a single 520hp V-59 engine.

The main task of the 2K11 Krug set was and still is to fight high and medium flying targets at relatively long distances. The missiles included in the set have a speed of up to Mach 4, and their range is up to 55 km. The 2K11 set has been modernized many times since its introduction. A very significant modernization took place in 1974, when a large part of the technical defects noticed in the course of operation were removed, which significantly increased the combat value of the set. The latest version of the set was created in 1994 and is called Wiraż. It is dedicated primarily to foreign recipients. The 2K11 set was operated for a very short time during the war in Afghanistan, but due to the nature of the conflict, the last 2K11 batteries were withdrawn from there by 1981 at the latest. The 2K11 set was exported mainly to the Warsaw Pact countries, but also to North Korea.
