During the early stage of World War 2, the German Navy's "U-Boat" submarines posed a great threat to the Allied Forces in the North Atlantic Ocean. To counter them, new destroyers were built to escort transport vessels, as well as escort carriers that could provided constant air protection to the convoys for the length of their journey across the Atlantic. This type of aircraft carrier was a modification from certain merchant vessels, and the U.S. Navy made an extensive development and use of them for convoy escort and aircraft transportation.
This series enriches the modeller with WWII and modern warships from navies that have taken part in the great and significant sea battles across the world. With over 100 models, the 1/700 Waterline Series represents a collaboration effort of three Japanese model manufacturers of which Tamiya is one. This is the largest of its type in the world and allows the modeller access to a huge choice of these incredible warships. As the name implies, the models represent the portion of the ship which sits above the waterline. They may be displayed on a flat surface as though they were at sea.
