Description

The destroyer leader "Tashkent" began construction in Italy on January 11, 1935, was launched on November 28, 1937, and was accepted into service by the Soviet Union on October 22, 1939. The design of the "Tashkent" was unusually avant-garde at the time. It was one of the few large ships capable of exceeding 40 knots during World War II. After its transformation in 1942, its firepower was even increased to the level of a light cruiser.

During World War II, her main mission was as a transport ship for personnel and supplies. Among the Soviet ships transporting supplies to Sevastopol, the "Tashkent" is quite legendary. Even the Germans know its name. It transported supplies to the besieged Soviet troops dozens of times, during which it was attacked by the German Air Force. There were more than 90 air strikes, and the Germans dropped more than 400 bombs and fired 10 torpedoes at it.

After the "Tashkent" withdrew to the Novorossiysk Naval Base, it was completely blown up on the slipway in an air raid on July 2. It was salvaged in 1944 and was demolished in 1945 because it had no repair value.
