Description

Commissioned in 1942, the 38,000-ton displacement South Dakota-class battleship USS Alabama began her WWII service in the Atlantic, where she took part in the failed attempt to lure the German battleship Tirpitz out of hiding. Moving to the Pacific Theater in 1943, she supported the landings on Tarawa, and participated in the Marianas campaign and the Battle of the Philippine Sea. She supported operations in Okinawa and other southern Japanese islands before moving northward to bombard the Japanese mainland itself. After the Japanese surrender she supported occupation operations before being decommissioned in 1947. She is now anchored in Mobile Bay, Alabama, continuing her noble service as a museum ship.

Trumpeter's massive 1/350 USS Alabama is a welcome addition to the scale, and can be built as either a waterline or full-hull model. A nice drydock-style stand is included for the full-hull version, as well as a nameplate. Fine detail is evident throughout. The 16-inch guns can be built either with movable guns (the fun choice) or fixed guns with the canvas boots in place (the more accurate choice). Includes two OS2U-1 seaplanes. Decals are provided for the Alabama and its two aircraft.
