Postage Stamp - 1/300 VC-121E "Columbine III" USAF
The VC-121 was the military variant of the iconic L-1049 Super Constellation commercial airliner first produced by Lockheed in 1939. The VC-121 lengthened the L-1049 fuselage by about 18 ft / 5.5 m, and was given more powerful engines and greater fuel capacity. The VC-121E served as the official aircraft of President Dwight Eisenhower from 1954 to 1961, and was also used by other top officials for high-priority flights. It was named “Columbine” after the state flower of Colorado. The US Air Force continued to use the VC-121E as a VIP transport till 1966, when it was given to the National Museum of the USAF for permanent display.
