The B-1B Lancer is a supersonic, swing-wing, heavy strategic bomber. It became operational in 1986 when it was assigned to the USAF Strategic Air Command with a nuclear payload. In the early 1990s the B-1B fleet was transferred to Air Combat Command; it would use conventional and guided “smart” munitions on combat missions in Iraq and Kosovo. The B-1B is nicknamed the “Bone”, and holds 61 world records for speed, payload, and distance. It can travel at Mach 1.25 at high altitude. 67 B-1Bs remain in service, and are expected to do so till 2030. The “Boss Hawg” is the 10th B-1B produced.
