Formed in 1944 as GT I/15 as part of the Free French Forces, becoming the Escadron de transport 1/61 “Touraine” in 1953. The squadron began operations with the Airbus A400M Atlas in September 2015 at Air Base 123 Orleans-Bricy “Charles Paoli”,  Orleans, France.
