Why this car matters

The Ford XT Falcon GT launched in Australia in March 1968. It followed the successful XR Falcon GT and helped establish the Falcon GT as a performance model in its own right. Ford offered the XT GT in a wider range of colours than the XR, giving buyers more choice.

The XT Falcon GT also played a key role in the early Ford versus Holden rivalry. Ford developed the GT to compete with Holden's Monaro, with both brands taking their performance cars to Bathurst and other Australian race tracks.
