Postage Stamp 1/144 C47 Skytrain Stoy Hora USAAF
Postage Stamp - 1/144 C-47 Skytrain "Stoy Hora" USAAF
Entering service in 1935, the Douglas DC-3 passenger aircraft was quickly adapted for military service and renamed the C-47 Skytrain. This reliable aircraft was in great demand during World War II, and played a key role in the D-Day invasion of June 1944; over 50,000 Allied paratroopers were dropped over Normandy by C-47s. The “Stoy Hora” was the leading plane of the 440th Troop Carrier Group on D-Day. The name is derived from the Spanish phrase “estoy ahora", meaning, "I am here for you right now”.
