Description
The Britannia Class locomotives were versatile machines whereas other locomotives tended to be designed, built, and used either for passenger or freight duties. ‘Black Prince’ was named after ‘Edward of Woodstock’ the eldest son of King Edward III. Britannia Class No. 70008 was first based at the Norwich engine shed but later traveled to the town of March in Cambridgeshire and finally to Kingmoor. Locomotive No. 70008 was withdrawn from service in January 1967, and stored for five months before being cut up for scrap at Campbells of Airdrie in June 1967.
