Postage Stamp 1/110 F86 Sabre MIG MAD MARINE
Postage Stamp - 1/110 F-86 Sabre "MIG MAD MARINE"
Developed in the late 1940s, the F-86 Sabre emerged as the best fighter aircraft in the Korean War, typically deployed against Soviet MiG-15 fighters in high-speed dogfights. The F-86 was the first US swept-wing jet fighter, and although it was outmoded by the end of the 1950s, its versatility ensured that it continued to serve in many air forces till the 1990s. The F-86 Sabre "MIG MAD MARINE" was flown by USMC pilot John Glenn, Jr. who would go on to become a test pilot, astronaut, and US Senator. Glenn originally named his jet after his wife and two kids, but did not see much action. All that changed when his flight crew added “MIG MAD MARINE” in red paint to the fuselage; Glenn shot down three MiGs near the Yalu River in the last two weeks of the war.
