Postage Stamp 1/100 P47D Thunderbolt Snafu
Postage Stamp - 1/100 P-47D Thunderbolt "Snafu"
Over 15,000 P-47 Thunderbolt fighter-bombers were produced for the USAAF during World War II. Formidably armed with eight .50 caliber guns, the P-47 could cover long distances with the aid of auxiliary fuel tanks. It was the heaviest single-engine World War II fighter and the first piston-powered fighter capable of speeds over 500 mph / 805 kph. This model is a replica of the P-47 "Snafu", which was stationed in England from late 1944 to escort Allied heavy bombers. The actual “Snafu” has been restored to its original wartime operational condition by The Fighter Collection, a vintage aircraft group based at the historic Duxford Airfield in the UK.
